1885 Birmingham T-Shaped Carriage Makers' Bronze Rabbet Plane

6" long x 1 1/2" wide. Single iron blade 1 1/2" wide.

Originally manufactured by the Birmingham Plane Mfg. Co. from 1885-1900 in Birmingham Conn. (now known as Derby Conn.)(the original factory location is only 12 miles away from where I live). This is the smallest size model. It has a distinctive design with the open-work handle, and bat-wing motif cast on the sides behind the cutter. The beautifully sculpted, stylized "batwing" motif is masterfully integrated into the plane bodies design, giving it an excentric, almost medieval flavor visually. A very unique, and beautiful plane design. Hand cast in bronze. Precisely machined and mated surfaces.Rc-62 high grade precision ground tool steel blade make this a wonderful period "user" tool for the skilled craftsman. Fits in the palm of your hand. Pristine "crisp" and beautiful and at a fraction of the price of a beat up worn original that you would be afraid to use!A wonderful plane for the classical fine woodworking shop, conservation studio,or collector to admire. Available now!
